The beginning of the most thrilling sports event will be hosted in the fashion capital of Milan and the mountainous town of Cortina.

With 93 countries and over 3,500 athletes here to compete and represent their homes in multiple sports events, the world watches onto the best competitors’ performances.

Starting from February 6, the games will span over 16 days’ worth of entertainment, eventually ending on February 22.

The opening ceremony for the Milano Cortina presents Italy’s historical nationalism through its references to its art, fashion, and music culture. 

With bright coloured costumes set on the palette inspired stage, a flow of dancing moves along to celebrate the arrival of the Olympics in the typical flashy Italian dramatics.

Between classical sculptures by Antonio Canova to famous landmarks, the beauty of Italy’s art culture is presented throughout the ceremony. Through people, colour, or images, the Olympic ceremony carries the pride of Italian presence in historical and modern society.

he renaissance’s most renowned artists, Leonardo Da Vinci, influences the Olympic cauldron. The design taking inspiration from his drawing of nots, it creates this intricate cage for the Olympic flame to burn at the end of the ceremony. 

People from all over the world journeyed over to Milan and Cortina to witness the four-yearly opening. With all eyes focused on the upcoming sports, some of the people’s favourite stars were spotted on the red carpet just prior to the beginning. 

With big stars of award-winning films, Stanley Tucci along with Jeff Goldblum were spotted to watch the grand opening.

However, they were not the only big names seen here in Milan to witness the show. 

American, three-time Olympic gold medallist Shaun White arrived at the San Siro to watch on the winter games as an onlooker for the first time after his retirement in Beijing 2022.

Another big name is Swedish former footballer, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, once a player within the stadium walls. He shared his excitement and love for the skiing and the other events yet to happen. 

The Olympics is a special event and the opening ceremony’s theme of harmony had showed exactly why. 

The gathering of people from all corners of the world, in-person and those watching from home, to watch as representatives from different countries compete to win for themselves and their people.

There is such a special meaning to the Milano Cortina 2026 opening that could possibly never happen again.

And with that, let the Winter Olympics begin.
